Pauline and the Bordeaux Chartrons district

Pauline invites you through the street of the Chartrons district... Let's follow her !

Hello! My name is Pauline, and I’ve been a real Chartronnaise since I moved here in Bordeaux. But today, it is far from the busy heart of the Chartrons area that I’m leading you – because this area has better kept secrets still!

First of all, go to the 72 Cours de la Martinique. There, you will enjoy a real frenchy bakery where the bread is still baked in the oldest oven of Bordeaux (built in 1765)! Then go to the riverside Quai des Chartrons, and take a left to follow the buildings in the direction of Pont Chaban Delmas.

Arriving n°89, you can wave hello to Thomas Jefferson, this American ambassador who lived 5 years in Bordeaux during the 18th century. This plaque was inaugurated in 2010. And please, go through the door next to it. You enter a private school which was established in the former wine cellars of the de Luze wine merchants. In the hall, you’ll see on the walls traces of the barrels. They remind us that this Chartrons area used to be a wine town, where the barrels were kept and where the wine was aged, blended and exported.

Cross this big corridor until you arrive in a street.

Pauline street art Chartrons

You can admire the “Wall of Bordeaux” where a street-artist comes every month to express his art. And in the end, have a walk in the Rue du Faubourg des Arts. It was inaugurated in 2003, in order to give to creators and artists a place where to show – and sell – their art. Quite surprising!
